One Dollar Words

Eli, a math loving fifth grader has passion for numbers. As a second grader he learned to find the Value of Words. He started finding the value of many words, but became inspired to search for the elusive $1.00 words. One dollar words are words with a letter sum that equals $1.00. Each letter is assigned a money value as listed in the table below.
| A = 1¢ | F= 6¢ | K = 11¢ | P = 16¢ | U = 21¢ | Z = 26¢ |
| B = 2¢ | G = 7¢ | L = 12¢ | Q = 17¢ | V = 22¢ | |
| C = 3¢ | H = 8¢ | M = 13¢ | R = 18¢ | W = 23¢ | |
| D = 4¢ | I = 9¢ | N = 14¢ | S = 19¢ | X = 24¢ | |
| E = 5¢ | J = 10¢ | O = 15¢ | T = 20¢ | Y = 25¢ |
The word "cat" would be worth 24¢
because 3¢ + 1¢ +20¢ =24¢
"Love" is a 54¢ word because 12¢ + 15¢ + 22¢
+ 5¢ = 54¢
"Nutty" is a one dollar word because the sum of its letters equal
$1.00 exactly. So is "writing". Check it out by adding up each letter to
find the sum.
He became a $1.00 word finding maniac. Eli would find the sum of words as he drove in his car, walked through a store, read a book, and in any other place words presented themselves. In recent years he has also shared some of his dollar finding strategies: look for words with a lot of letters towards the end of the alphabet, turn letters into groups of 20 (like the letter t), notice letters that occur often and learn their value like -ing=30 and qu equals 38. He wishes us all luck on our $1 word search.
